Your daughter will always be your little girl: the one you want to keep safe, whether it’s from boys, scraped knees or hardship. It’s important to make an effort to spend quality, one-on-one bonding time with your daughter, but sometimes understanding what she likes and what she wants can be a daunting task. Here a few activities to get you started; don’t forget to ask her what she’s interested in, too!

1. Grab a Bite to Eat

A growing girl needs to eat! Sharing a meal together is a great, neutral way to spend some time together and catch up. Take her out for breakfast before school, out for an afternoon snack or to dinner for a father-daughter “date.” Better yet, make a tradition of choosing a restaurant that’s just for the two of you. This will help to build a special connection and memories that you both share.
2. Teach Her a Skill

There’s a lot a daughter can learn from her father about how to be independent and self-reliant.Teach her some simple rules about tools or how to change a tire. Be there to offer her a first driving lesson. Help her perfect her baseball throw. Don’t feel that her mother is the only one who has things to share with her—you have a lot of wisdom to lend, so don’t hesitate to get started!
3. Explore Nature Together

Getting outside, exploring nature and filling our lungs with fresh air is really beneficial to all of us. Plan a hike with your daughter, explore the woods or even go on a camping trip. Nature has a wonderful way of bringing people together.
4. Plan a Board Game Night

Planning a night in with your daughter? Try pulling out some board games! There are so many out there to choose from that, so there’s sure to be something that the two of you can enjoy together. A little friendly competition is also a fun way to laugh together and bond.
5. Attend Her Events

One of the most important and meaningful ways you can bond with your daughter is simply by showing up. Does she have a dance recital or soccer game coming up? Is her year-end choir concert near, or is there a science fair you can attend? Make an effort to be at these events. This will show that you support her and care about her interests and passions, which is one of the most significant ways that a father can demonstrate his love for his daughter.
