Adventure therapy can include rock-climbing, hiking, white water rafting—anything outdoorsy. It’s the perfect outlet for active teens to release stress and focus on something other than the temptation to use substances.

Being creative allows teens to tap into their emotions and puts them in a positive space for reflection and healing. Art is used therapeutically to help people with self-expression who are seeking personal growth or struggling with mental health issues.

Music is another medium for self-expression and reflection. It also has a soothing effect, alleviating stress and boosting the mood. Music therapy can come in the form of playing an instrument, or simply enjoying listening and singing along.

Every teen is different and will respond to different things. Think outside the box when it comes to your teen’s recovery. Consider alternative therapies while finding what works for your child specifically.
