5 Tips to Help with End-of-Semester Studying

At the end of the semester, it can feel like you’ll never get through that tower of papers, assignments and study notes. But if you play your cards right, you can studying a lot easier on yourself.

  • Start at the Beginning

    Reviewing your class notes every week from the very beginning of the semester is going to save you tons of time and stress at the end of the term. Reading your notes right after your class has ended will let you add anything else you didn’t get a chance to write down and ask any questions that may arise. Taking this bit of time will help you comprehend the material and recollect what you've learned come exam time.

  • Practice Tests

    Ask your teacher if there are any past tests that you can use to practice with. If they don’t have any old exams you can use, ask if they would be willing to make up a test for you to study with or if they have any suggestions on how to make your own practice test.

  • Ask Questions

    Throughout the semester, ask questions. Don’t be afraid to raise your hand in class if you missed or don't understand—chances are someone else has the same question. If you have any questions while reviewing your notes during exam period, ask those too. There is never a wrong time to ask a question.

  • Find What Works For You

    Reading and writing out notes doesn’t work for all. Everyone has a different way of learning—some people are more visual while others are more tactile. If you haven’t already, figure out what works best for you and shape your study practice on that.

  • Stay Relaxed and Sleep

    If you like to listen to music while you study, try classical music instead of electronic; this is an example of a way to create a calm study environment. If you’re stressed out and in a tense environment, you’re going to have a harder time focusing. Surround yourself with stillness and positivity. Also, get some sleep! Your body and mind need rest if you want to ace that test.
